Grinding filament: Due to abnormal resistance during filament feeding and retraction, the filament is ground into a small pit by the hub gear. This is called grinding filament. It can cause subsequent feeding issues where the hub gear cannot grip the ground section of the filament, resulting in slippage and feeding error messages.
During the filament feeding and retraction process, if there is excessive resistance at some point, the filament cannot be fed in or retracted. However, the hub gear continues to feed filament, causing friction between the gear and filament, grinding a small pit into the filament.
It may also be due to severe wear of the hub gear, causing the gear teeth to become blunt and unable to grip the filament properly, leading to static friction and wear on the filament.
After resolving feeding/retraction issues or other error messages, it's usually necessary to inspect the filament to prevent grinding-related problems next time. You need to unload the problematic filament and carefully check if it has been ground into small pits. Please inspect at least 2 meters to ensure all filament that has been in contact with the hub gear is thoroughly checked. Cut off the grinding section, reload the filament, and resume printing. If grinding issues persist, your hub gear teeth may be worn and the gear may need replacement.
