This article is based on an original Instagram video demonstrating how to scan a damaged object and use CrealityScan to repair physical cracks or localized damage on the model surface, reconstructing a complete and smooth 3D model.
Pre‑treatment of the Damaged Object (Optional)
For objects that are broken, cracked, or have loose parts, temporarily fix them with glue to restore them as closely as possible to their original shape, so as to obtain more complete and accurate scan data.
Attach Markers (Optional)
If the object surface is lack of geometry features, it is recommended to attach at least 3 markers on both the front and back of the object to facilitate marker‑based alignment later.
If using marker tracking or blue laser scanning, place the object on a turntable with markers attached, and use auxiliary tools to place it vertically on the platform for scanning.
Open CrealityScan software, select the appropriate scan mode and parameters, and start scanning the front side. Click "Finish Scan" to end the front scan. Then click "New Scan" and start scanning the back side. Finally, click "Finish Scan" to end the back scan.
In the left project list, hold Ctrl and select both Scan1 and Scan2, then click "Fusion" to start batch fusion. Wait for the fusion to complete.
After fusion, click "alignment" to enter the alignment interface and align the front and back data.
Click "Meshing" to convert the point cloud into a mesh and generate the complete scan model.
Select the mesh data. Use the Lasso or Rectangle Selection tool at the bottom to precisely select cracks and damaged areas on the surface.
Press Delete to remove the selected crack data, leaving a relatively clean hole with regular edges on the model surface.
Click Mesh Processing → Hole Filling.
Select Manual Mode, choose Curvature as the hole‑fill type, and left‑click on the hole you want to fill. The software will automatically calculate and fill the missing area based on the curvature of adjacent features, generating a structurally continuous new mesh.
Click "Apply" to save the hole‑filling result.
Smoothing (Optional)
Use the "Smooth" tool to locally smooth the seams around the filled hole to remove visible repair marks.
¶ 3. Advanced Tip: Using the Bridge Tool to Split Large Holes
When the damaged area is large or the hole boundary has drastic curvature changes, a direct hole-filling may cause distortions that deviates from the original shape. In such cases, you can use the Bridge tool to split the large hole into several smaller filling regions. This gives you better control over the surface flow and ensures a smooth transition with the surrounding geometry.
Steps:
In the Hole Filling interface, select Manual Mode, then click the Bridge tool.
Click two points sequentially on the hole boundary that has drastic curvature changes. The software will generate a bridge edge between them, dividing the large hole into two holes. Repeat by adding more bridges at suitable positions to further split the hole into multiple smaller regions
After splitting, fill each small hole individually using the appropriate fill mode (e.g., "Tangent" or "Curvature").
For damaged objects with simple structures and smooth surfaces, users can complete the entire workflow from data acquisition to model repair directly within CrealityScan, without the need for third‑party 3D modeling software such as Geomagic Design X or Blender. The operation path is short, making it easy for beginners to get started.
