CR-SCAN-OTTER is a very good scanner with a scanning accuracy of up to 0.02mm. It can directly scan double eyelids. In order to obtain better scanning results, you need to understand the following four scanner imaging characteristics for full body scanning:
Try to keep sufficient and even light around the person: This is very important for color texturing later. Otherwise, it is easy for the mapping brightness to be uneven, which will increase a lot of photo retouching costs.
Try to keep the person still during the scanning process: changes in the object's posture during the scanning process will cause the scanner to mistracking the model, resulting in model misalignment and increasing a lot of model repair costs.
Do not repeat the scan: Because of the tiny movements of the human body, repeated scanning will only increase the scanner model alignment error.
The scanning distance has a direct impact on the accuracy of the model: within the imaging range(see the working distance bar in the left side of the software), the closer the scanning distance, the higher the quality of the final model.
Working with the turntable, we recommend three-stage scanning when scanning people. That is, the human body is divided into three parts: the top of the head to the chest, the chest to the knees, and the knees to the feet. The scan is completed within 90 seconds through three circles. From the top of the head to the chest, mainly focus on the face; the chest to the knees: focus on the hands; the knees to the feet: focus on the close-ups of the feet. In this process, some parts that are not covered, such as the top of the head, can be ignored, and the scanner or later will fill in.
1. Open the software and make sure the scanner is connected to the computer successfully via USB3.0, then click Start Scan.
2. Select the option in the red box to start scanning: Body mode, Geometry, Hi-Quality
When you are at a suitable distance and the indicator light turns green, you can click the triangle symbol to start scanning.
4. Click the Complete Scan button and adjust the point cloud optimization parameters, with the point distance between 0.8-1 and the sensitivity 1.
5. After the optimization settings are completed, move to Mesh Settings, set the number of faces to between 1.5 and 2 million, and select Fill Holes and Close then click the mesh icon.
Note: One-click processing is not recommended.
6. After the mesh is finished, click this icon to generate the texture to check whether the texture is complete, and then export the obj file.
7. If you want a body scan with more face detailes, you can try to scan body and face separately then merge 2 scans together. See below video. https://youtu.be/DQuBscPC8qk
